To all the people who supported me, my projects, who had so much trust and patience, fun and … did I mentioned patience… THANK YOU. We will kick the same way in 2010… NO… even better !!!

This and last week i gave a workshop on Fritzing and Arduino at the college for applied sciences in Dresden. Togther with the incredebly skilled Daniel Schulze (what a pleasure to do this workshop with him) we had three days to explore the foundations of physical computing using arduino microprocessor boards and fritzing software. The first day we cleared the basics of programming tangible interactions, electricity and tried out first little programs. Day two was more about details of coding and the way of controlling bigger circuits. For displaying the arduino set up’s and explaining electronic circuits and signages we used Fritzing, which the students started to use intuitively. The last day we needed to explain the communication between Processing ad Arduino. Part of the workshop was to develop an interactive object using allready existing electronic mateial and parts of the provided sensors from the college. The results have been amazing, ranging from an afraid birdy to a raw gestural interface constructed from a radio toy and a household glove. Nice. The objects will be now finished and presented while our ‘open office soiree’ on the 11th of december in Berlin. It´s worth looking.

Ok, this one is going to be in german language. It´s an invitation to our ‘open office soiree’ at glogauer straße 21 in Berlin Kreuzberg. It will take place at the 11th of descember from 4 to 8 pm. We will show works realised this year. But not only objects, books and installations from us, but also from friends and designers we crossed ways and that impressed us this year. So if you´re around, feel heartly invited to see what happend throughout this year.

Zum zweiten mal haben wir Freunde und Kollegen eingeladen, die
mit Papier, Ton und Porzellan arbeiten, aber eben auch die anderen,
die mit digitalen Werkzeugen entwerfen, mit Arduinos experimentieren
oder Scans per CNC ausfräsen. Wir möchten uns gegenseitig und
natürlich auch Euch/ Ihnen unsere Arbeiten zeigen, anbieten, manches
davon noch unbekannt, aber zum Teil atemberaubend schön oder
voller Humor und wir wollen mit Ihnen/ Euch ins Gespräch kommen,
uns austauschen über dies und das.

Wer zeigt was?

Christian Zöllner, Daniel Schulze und Studierende der HTW Dresden:
Arduinio ThinkTank: re-cycling, trans-cycling, up-cycling von verwaisten
Elektronikkomponenten zu bizarren, humorvollen, klingenden
und wackelnden Eintagsfliegen.

Christian Zöllner und Studierende der UdK: Leuchten, im Raum
gezeichnet und technologisch erfasst. Eine Auswahl an Experimenten
im weiten Feld Deckenleuchte, entstanden in einem neuen, halb
virtuellen Entwurfsmedium: der Holo-Höhle.

Christian Zöllner und Tobias Fischer: Endlich! David gegen Goliath.
Mit der SMSlingshot, einer digitalen Steinschleuder, lässt sich der
Werbung im urbanen Raum archetypisch der Kampf ansagen. Der
Hof der Glogauer wird zur Agora, digtial gezwitschert und handfest
diskutiert.

Robert Fehse und Moritz Kassner: Lässt sich ein Regalsystem aus nur
zwei Elementen entwickeln, effektiv auf einer CNC-Fräse herstellen
und ohne Werkzeug aufbauen?  Die Autoren versuchen mit ihrem
System 180, eine Antwort zu geben.

Robert Fehse und Moritz Kassner: crumpled wood – Das Auge wird
getäuscht, die Finger enttarnen. Der 3D-Scan eines zerknüllten und
wieder aufgefalteten Blattes Papier, gefräst in Eiche, ergibt eine Skulptur
an der Grenze zwischen Sehen und Tasten.

Daniel Stolle kann komplexe Sachverhalte in Illustrationen darstellen.
Außerdem hat er eine diebische Freude am Zeichnen. Wir zeigen seine
freien Arbeiten: 16 Matrosen als zweifarbige Drucke.

Johannes Volkmann vom Papiertheater Nürnberg schickt uns seine
Bücher zum Reißen und Schneiden: »Die Geschichte einer Frage«
erzählt von einem Mann, der sich einen Stuhl baut. Ein anderes Buch
erklärt wie die Liebe entstand und woher die Sehnsucht nach der
anderen Hälfte kommt.

Die Klasse Buchkunst der Hochschule für Kunst und Design Burg
Giebichenstein entwirft, druckt und bindet nicht nur bildschöne Bücher,
manchmal  werden es auch wunderbare Zauberschachteln.

Cordula Kafka: Ein sanft leuchtendes X und ein sanft leuchtendes Y –
zwei handgefertigte Pendelleuchten aus Biskuitporzellan.

Till Bruttel und Regine Skoluda arbeiten mit Ton und Porzellan.
Schwarze und braune oder weiße und hellblaue Punkte oder Muster
auf kleinen Teeschalen erfreuen das Auge und schmeicheln der Hand.

Angelika Petruschat zeigt, was sie zusammen mit Autoren, Herausgebern,
Grafikerinnen und Druckereien im letzten Jahr erdacht, erarbeitet und
produziert hat: »design-design. Design Dictionary«. »Mit Lauten malen« –
das neue Büchlein von Mariko Takagi. »M – das Mies Haus Magazin«
des Mies van der Rohe Hauses in Berlin-Weißensee.

Kurt und Heike Salchli vom Vice Versa Vertrieb betreuen die
Publikationen von über 40 Verlagen, Museen, Galerien und Zeitschriften
aus den Bereichen Architektur, Design, Kunst und Fotografie – zum
Teil selten schöne Ausgaben aus Kleinverlagen. Die schönsten
wählen sie für uns aus.

Goetz Haubold demonstriert mit seiner Fahrradmarke Dailybread
wie er mit einem eigens entwickelten Unisex-Rahmen und sorgfältig
ausgewählten Komponenten gut funktionierende, individuelle und
trotzdem schöne Räder baut.

I will spin some records at Berlins “Salon zur wilden Renate” at the 17th of December. For everyone interested, come along. The show is part of the KARMANOIA events taking place every thursday at the Renate. I will play a set of dark ambient doom, drones and noises blended with subbass dubstep tunes. OK, that does not sound very uplifting, but hey… it´s about music and sound. For all the dancing shoes I will go back to my roots and play at the Emil Zittau alongside funkfist, alla and Steve Osten on the 27th of December. There we will do some more grooving tunes…

On Friday I will give a talk on the “Sketching in Space” project at the forum for artistic andscientific research at the university of the arts Berlin. For that occasion I will point out the role of the designer in academic processes and sum up what I personally learned in the project so far. If someone is interested, please feel invited to join, listen and discuss!

Back from Riga. It was an overall amazing trip. So many new friends, so many new attitudes, ideas, ways of looking into and out of the world. The white nights festival was a full success. A lot of visitors were there, trying out the SMSlingshot, spreading their messages onto the wall of Latvias contemporary art museum and buzzed away to the next stop of the night. Especailly we want to thank Zane, Egita and Fionn for taking so much care of us and showing around the city. We will put up some videos and fotos during the week at vrurban.org to give you some more detailed impressions of the crazyness of SMSlingshot.

Tonight we will show the SMSlingshot project at the kim? gallery in Riga/Latvia. We arrived yesterday, had a first testscreening + some serious drinking and prepare now everything for the night. Still quiet a lot of software struggles between the wires and a bit physical de-bugging has to be done.
