10.16.10SMSlingshot in ViennaLast week the VR/urban team was invited by Amnesty International to show the SMSlingshot at the Museumsquartier in Vienna. The occasion (Day of death penalty) was less delectable than the fact that a lot of people haved used their voice against capital punishment and death by right. We used background illustrations for the first time to better trigger a discourse in front of the facade and by this on the facade. There are also videos available: here and here.

08.31.10Back from BrazilWOW. I´m back from brazil since three weeks but thats the first day I really get into reflecting and posting about FILE festival and the SMSlingshot project in Brazil. First: it was an amazing trip. We met so many new friends and saw even more interesting projects from all over the world that it´s hard to list everyone. 06.29.10The Art DilemmaI will give a talk at FH Potsdam on the 7th of july around 5 pm. It will be part of a interdisciplinary project of product designers, media scientist, urban planners curated and organised by Susa Pop. The talk will be about our work in public space and the dangers and limitations of creating (inter)active art in public spheres. It will be a little brother version of the talk I will give in sao paulo in end of july! And it will be in german. So if you are around, drop by and join!

04.13.10Lesen & LasernTogether with Jana Patz, researcher and lecturer at the fashion department of the University of the Arts in Berlin, I will host a project on reading and understanding design theoretical texts. Today we had a first kick off meeting with the students and will start next week when I´m back from the Hannover Industry Fair. The students will have to read Villem Flusser "gesture of planting" and develop a personally radical approach on design out of it. The resulting design will be laser-cut at our in-house laser router. I´m allready well excited on the projects.

02.11.10Transmediale IIWhat an inspiring day. Together with curators and artists from all over europe we held a workshop during the transmediale´s "Free Culture Incubator". We searched for possible new and allready existing reclaiming techniques for urban and public media screens. Some of the answers were all over impressing, such as the open lab initiative by Prado MediaLab and the urban interventions by FACT Liverpool. The second part of the workshop was about the link up between artistic positions and financial business models. 01.13.10TransmedialeNext to the all of my time munching preparings for the TEI conference I currently work on a concept for a workshop taking place on the 5th of february at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin during the Transmediale Festival. With the Workshop we will try to find new ways of reclaiming digital augmented public advertising screens and discuss possibilities of a democratic access to urban media. 01.13.10M is for mekkaWow. I will go to the MIT MediaLab and present the SMSlingshot while the TEI conference end of january. This will be fun.... I can´t believe it. THE MIT!!! And it´s getting much more unbelievable, because there will propably be a workshop I will give, too. Currently I am preparing everything like slides, materials, models and some software tasks, so I might be a bit inconvenient at the moment for other things.
